Chiefs Add Overage Forward Baron Thompson
November 9, 2019 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Spokane Chiefs News Release
Spokane, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs announced on Saturday that they have added overage forward Baron Thompson to their roster.
"Baron will provide some size and experience to our forward group," said Chiefs general manager Scott Carter. "He has shown some leadership ability and will be a strong addition to our team. We're excited to have him."
A 1999-born winger originally from Lakeville, Minn., Thompson has 172 WHL games under his belt, all with Brandon, while adding seven postseason contests. He scored 24 goals and added 26 assists while recording 115 penalty minutes with the Wheat Kings.
Standing 6-foot-5 and 250 pounds, Thompson has piled up 28 points (13G-15A) in 15 games as an alternate captain with the Dauphin Kings of the MJHL this season, leading the MJHL in points per game (2nd in overall scoring). He tallied six multi-point games, including three four-point efforts and 19 points (10G-9A) over his last eight games.
"I'm a big guy, I like to be physical, but I also have the skill set to hopefully put up some decent numbers," Thompson told Darnell Duff of the DUBNetwork earlier this year. "Overall, I'm just a power forward who can get the puck on goal and make plays."
Thompson will be available to play Saturday night as the Chiefs host the Kelowna Rockets at Spokane Arena. He will wear jersey no. 6.
The roster move puts Spokane at the league limit of three overage players, joining defensemen Noah King and Filip Kral.
