Harrisburg Heat News Release

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill., Feb. 9, 2014 - The Harrisburg Heat's already slim playoff hopes became even slimmer Sunday night after their 14-3 loss to the undefeated Chicago Mustangs in a Professional Arena Soccer League match at Grand Sports Arena.

The loss dropped the 4-11 Heat to 1 1/2 games behind Cincinnati (5-9) for the fourth and final playoff spot in the PASL's Eastern Division. The Heat, who hold the playoff tiebreaker with Cincinnati, must win their regular-season finale next Sunday at Dallas (13-2) while needing the Saints next weekend to lose both their home game against Detroit (8-5) and then their road game at Chicago (15-0).

The Mustangs rolled to their 15th straight victory, and their third this season against the Heat, behind six goals and an assist from Bryan Moya, the 20-year-old forward who scored three times in the game's first 22 minutes, 13 seconds.

Moya scored his fourth goal just 26 seconds into the third quarter. He added No. 5 with only 48 seconds left in the third and his final goal with 20 seconds remaining in the game.

Moya has scored 13 of his 36 goals this season against the Heat. He also has four assists in three games against them. His six goals and seven points in this match were the most by an opposing player in one game against the Heat in their two seasons in the PASL.

Chicago bolted to a 5-0 lead before the Heat scored on a goal by defender Zach Sell at 8:43 of the second quarter. The Mustangs then raced to a 12-1 lead before forward Kenneth Fultz posted the Heat's second goal at 4:56 of the fourth quarter. Fultz scored again on the power play with 8:20 remaining in the game.

The Mustangs scored all of their goals against Tim Mehl, the former Lebanon Valley College goalkeeper who was starting for the second time in as many games after falling 4-3 in his pro debut Saturday night at Illinois. Mehl was signed just prior to the two-game road trip, replacing the injured Sam Bishop and Justin Johnson.

GAME NOTES: Fultz's two goals gave him 21, a single-season record for the Heat. Midfielder Tyler Witmer, who assisted on Fultz's second goal, led the Heat last season with 20 goals. ... Forward Efrain Martinez also posted three goals with two assists for Chicago, while teammate Miguel Vaca had two goals and three assists. ...
