CHICAGO - The WNBA Chicago Sky (0-1) will take on the Sacramento Monarchs (1-0) in their 2008 regular season home opener on Thursday, May 17 at 7 p.m. at UIC Pavilion. The Sky lost to the Seattle Storm, 61-67, in the season opener at Key Arena last Saturday. The Sky led 38-29 early in the third quarter, but went cold and the Storm went on a 23-1 run. Chasity Melvin scored a team-high15 points, Jia Perkins added 12, and two-time All-Star Candice Dupree scored 7 and grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds. Sylvia Fowles played just 15 minutes in her WNBA debut before fouling out, finishing with 6 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocked shots.

SKY VS. MONARCHS HISTORY The Sky is 1-3 lifetime against the Monarchs, with two losses in the Sky's inaugural season and a 1-1 finish in 2007. The Sky's lone victory came on June 29, 2007 in a double overtime win at Sacramento, with Jia Perkins scoring a franchise and career record 39 points.

HOME OPENER The game on Thursday will feature a performance by the Soul Children of Chicago, returning for the second year to sing the national anthem and perform at halftime. The choir has performed in Italy, Holland, Sweden, Switzerland and Israel and won the prestigious Stellar Award. Fans will also be treated to performances by the McDonald's Fly Kids, the new Sky Dunk Team, the Sky Breakin' Crew and the Sky's Discover Card Drumline, and all fans in attendance will receive a free light stick, courtesy of presenting sponsor ComEd.

SKY COMMERCIAL The Sky's new TV spot began airing on NBC-5 and WCIU last week. Visit www.chicagosky.net to watch the commercial as well as behind-the-scenes footage on the making of the spot, featuring slam dunks by the Sky's top draft pick Sylvia Fowles and special commentary by 2007 WNBA Rookie of the Year Armintie Price.

SKY ROSTER UPDATE Final roster cuts were made on Friday, May 16, with the Sky releasing guards Stephanie Raymond and Erin Grant. The Sky traded center Bernadette Ngoyisa to the Indiana Fever for veteran guard K.B. Sharp on Wednesday, May 14. The Sky's final roster includes 12 players: Dominique Canty, Quianna Chaney, Kayte Christensen, Candice Dupree, Sylvia Fowles, Cathy Joens, Chasity Melvin, Jia Perkins, Armintie Price, Brooke Queenan, K.B. Sharp and Brooke Wyckoff.

MEDIA CREDENTIALS Applications for 2008 regular season credentials and single-game requests are being accepted online at www.chicagoskypressbox.com. Those who have already applied for 2008 season credentials can pick them up at the home opener on May 22 at Gate 1.

CHICAGO SKY AROUND TOWN Jewel Appearance: Sky rookie Brooke Queenan will make an appearance at the Jewel at 2940 N. Ashland on May 19 from 4-6 p.m. as part of the store's grand reopening celebration.

Chevy Mentoring Program Appearance: On Tuesday, May 20, Sky player Brooke Wyckoff will speak at Rock Cut Elementary at 2 p.m. The school is located on 7944 Forest Hills Road in Loves Park, IL. Wyckoff served as a mentor to Rock Cut student Justina Gallindo, who was selected as a winner of the Chevy "Together we Stand Tall" mentoring program during the 2007 season.

Girls Basketball Outreach: On Wednesday, May 21 at 2 p.m., Sylvia Fowles will speak to young athletes at Chicago's Ella Flagg School, located at 1434 N Parkside Ave. She will talk to students about self-esteem, hard work, education and teamwork, with a question and answer session to follow.

CARE Event: On Wednesday, May 21, Sky players Chasity Melvin and Jia Perkins will be supporting CARE and its mission of empowering women by appearing at a preview of the documentary "A Powerful Noise." The reception and screening begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Gene Siskel Film Center, 164 N. State Street in Chicago. CARE motivates women around to world to create lasting solutions to poverty.
