MONARCHS OPENING NIGHT

On Saturday, May 17, the Monarchs opened the 2008 WNBA season with a 73-64 win over the San Antonio Silver Stars in a rematch of the first round of the 2007 WNBA West Conference Playoffs. The Monarchs all-time record against San Antonio now stands at 24-16, including a 15-6 tally at home. Adrian Williams-Strong and Nicole Powell paced the team with 13 points apiece while Rebekkah Brunson led the way underneath the basket with nine boards.

Sacramento Monarchs 73, San Antonio Silver Stars 64

Saturday, May 17, 2008, 7:00 P.M. PDT at ARCO Arena

- Sacramento started the game on a 7-0 run.

- Monarch's center, Adrian Williams-Strong, went for 6-for-10 from the field for 13 points in addition to grabbing seven rebounds.

- The Monarchs shot 43.3% from the field and went for 4-for-9 shooting from the three-point line.

- Rebekkah Brunson came up just shy of a double-double with 10 points, nine rebounds, and three blocks.

- Nicole Powell had 13 points (shooting 3-for-6 from three-point line), four rebounds and a steal.

- Ticha Penicheiro recorded six points, five rebounds, a game-high seven assist and three steals.

MONARCHS CALENDAR

Tuesday, May 20 - Sacramento Monarchs at Seattle Storm, 7:30 PM PDT, ESPN2

On Tuesday, May 20, the Monarchs face the Seattle Storm for the first time since their 70-68 preseason win over Seattle on May 2. Both teams won their season openers on Saturday to start the season at 1-0; the game will be nationally broadcast on ESPN2.

Thursday, May 22 - Sacramento Monarchs at Chicago Sky, 5:00 PM PDT, NBA TV

The Sky fell to Seattle in their season opener as the Storm won, 67-61; Chicago hosts Sacramento in its second match-up of the season and the game will be shown on NBA TV.

Saturday, May 24 - Sacramento Monarchs at Connecticut Sun, 4:00 PM PDT

Sacramento rounds out its road trip with a 4:00 PM PDT match-up against Connecticut on Saturday, May 24. The Sun played back-to-back games this past weekend as they collected two wins, a 100-67 decision over Atlanta followed by a 77-63 victory over New York.

During the 2008 season, the Monarchs will be hosting special events for fans to participate in during designated home games throughout the season. The special events at Monarchs games are as follows:
