Chicago Sky News Release

CHICAGO - The WNBA Chicago Sky (4-4) returns home after last week's two-game road trip. Following a loss to Phoenix and a win against San Antonio, the Sky faces the Seattle Storm (3-3) for the first time this season on Tuesday, June 12 at 7 p.m. and the New York Liberty (5-2) on Friday, June 15 at 7:30 p.m. On Sunday, the Sky hits the road again, traveling to Connecticut for a rematch against the Sun (4-3) at 3 p.m. CDT (broadcast live on WVON 1690AM).

In the Sky's loss to Phoenix on Friday night, the Mercury held Candice Dupree to 6 points. Chasity Melvin and Dominique Canty stepped in with 15 and 11 points respectively, but it wasn't enough to stop Diana Taurasi's 22 points and Penny Taylor's 21. On Saturday, the Sky captured a franchise- first win against San Antonio with a 70-60 victory. Dupree led with 22 points and 8 rebounds and Melvin earned her fourth double-double of the season, with 17 points and 12 rebounds.

SKY V. NEW YORK

This week marks the second time the Sky has faced New York this season. The Sky fell 83-71 in the team's season opener at New York. Monique Currie, who has since been traded to Washington, led with 20 points and 10 rebounds, followed by Dupree's 12-point effort.

SKY V. CONNECTICUT

The first match up between the Sky and Sun was a nail-biting overtime game, which ended in a Sky loss, 102-97. The Sky held a lead through the first three quarters, but NY came back on the shoulders of Asjha Jones' 31-point effort. Dupree scored a career-high 31 points, one of 8 team records and 4 individual records set in the game. Melvin did not play in the first game because of a pre-game administrative error.

PEAK PERFORMER

After leading the Sky to the first-ever two-game winning streak in franchise history, Candice Dupree was named WNBA Peak Performer of the Week on June 5, 2007. Dupree pulled her team into overtime against the Connecticut Sun on Thursday night, and led the Sky in scoring with 31 points, hitting 11 field goals and 8 of 9 free throws. The following night, the Sky posted a victory in Washington. Dupree scored 19 points and grabbed five rebounds in helping her team to the 75-70 win; Jia Perkins also scored 19 off the bench.
