Chicago Sky News Release

CHICAGO, August 24, 2009 - The Chicago Sky will host Breast Health Awareness night on Friday, August 28th as the Sky take on the New York Liberty at 7:30 p.m. at the UIC Pavilion. The night is part of the WNBA's week long effort to generate awareness about breast cancer and raise funds to help fight the disease.

A variety of events and promotions have been put in place to make the night fun and educational including:

René Syler, the first African-American woman to host a network morning news program as co-anchor for The Early Show on CBS, will speak at a pre-game reception hosted by Bank of America. Less than a year with The Early show Syler had a mammogram which detected an unusual mass and later underwent four biopsies before doctors ruled that they were benign calcium deposits. The experience led Syler to create a three-part series on breast cancer awareness for the show. The Sky will also honor five breast cancer survivors during half-time.

The Sky has called for a Pink Out at the game encouraging all fans to wear pink to the game. Anyone who has purchased a Friends & Family Pack will receive a pink t-shirt with each ticket. Pink t-shirts will be also available for purchase at the game for $6 with all proceeds going to breast health awareness organizations. The Sky will also provide a pink ribbon to the first 1000 fans.

The night will include an in-game silent auction featuring autographed breast health awareness t-shirts, pink and white basketballs, pink Nike shoes and other memorabilia benefiting breast health awareness foundations in the Chicago area.

The Sky is hosting a number of ticket fundraisers with part of the proceeds being donated toward several breast health foundations including: A Silver Lining Foundation, Susan G. Komen, AVON, Gilda's Club, LCCP, and A Sister's Hope.
