Playoffs Push
Sacramento has won four of its last five games, including a victory over the Indiana Fever - the no. 1 team in the WNBA - on Aug. 20 to pull within two games of a playoff spot. Just ahead of the Monarchs in the Western Conference are the Minnesota Lynx and the San Antonio Silver Stars, who both hold a record of 11-16.
Back End of Back-to-Back Games
The Monarchs all-time record in the second game of back-to-back match-ups is 27-31, including a 12-5 record at home and a 15-26 record on the road. Thus far in 2009, Sacramento is 1-3 in the second game; the Monarchs face their last back-to-back series of the season this week as they play the Lynx in Minnesota on Fri., Aug. 28, at 5:00 p.m. PDT, then tip off against the Fever in Indiana on Sat., Aug. 29, at 4:00 p.m. PDT.
Homestand Highlights the End of the 2009 Regular Season
The Monarchs will end the 2009 season on a four-game homestand, beginning on Sept. 1 against the Connecticut Sun. Following that match- up, Sacramento will face Atlanta, San Antonio and Minnesota to round out the schedule.
Lawson and Powell Reach Career Milestone in Points
Both Monarchs guard Kara Lawson and Monarchs forward Nicole Powell have surpassed the 2,000 career point mark this season. Lawson tallied 12 points on 3-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc and 3-of-3 shooting from the free throw line against the Sparks on the July 14 in Los Angeles to record her 2,010th point. Currently, Lawson has 2,012 career points (as of 8/15). Powell surpassed the 2,000 point mark when she scored a career-high 32 points against the Liberty in New York on July 23; she shot 12-of-16 from the field, 5-of-8 from three-point range and 3-of-4 from the free throw line in the Monarchs win that night; currently, Powell has 2,163 career points (as of 8/22).
