Chicago Sky News Release
CHICAGO-The WNBA announced its 2007 regular season schedule today. The Chicago Sky will open its season on the road on May 20, against the New York Liberty. The team's home opener will be May 22 against the Los Angeles Sparks.
The WNBA also announced that the Sky will make the first pick in the dispersal draft for Charlotte Sting players, to be held on Monday, January 8.
The Sky face the defending champion Detroit Shock at home twice this season, first on July 12 and again on August 3. Chicago native Tamika Catchings returns to her hometown with the Indiana Fever on July 21 and August 7. Cappie Pondexter, also a Chicago native, comes to the UIC Pavilion with Diana Taurasi and the Phoenix Mercury on July 27. Fan favorite Sheryl Swoopes of the Houston Comets will face the Sky at home on July 29.
The Sky plays the five other Eastern Conference teams - Connecticut, Detroit, Indiana, New York and Washington - four times each season, twice at home. All home games in the 2007 season will be played at the UIC Pavilion predominantly on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
The Sky will have one West Coast trip in late June, traveling to Seattle, June 26; Sacramento, June 29; and Los Angeles, July 1. The team has back-to-back home games on July 21 and 22, hosting Indiana and San Antonio. The Sky will close out the season on the road August 16 and 19 at Houston and New York.
The Chicago Sky is the 14th team in the WNBA and celebrated its inaugural season in 2006. Season tickets, U-Pick plans and group tickets are now available for purchase online at www.chicagosky.net or by calling 877-329-WNBA (9622).
