CHICAGO, IL - (October 26, 2009) - The Chicago Fire Soccer today announced that the team will face the New England Revolution in the Eastern Conference Semifinal series for the second consecutive year. With a second place seeding in the Eastern Conference, the Fire secured home field advantage in the semifinals, playing the first game of the series on the road on Saturday, Oct. 31 at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass (3 p.m. CT, Fox Soccer Channel/FSE ). The Fire will return to Chicago to play the pivotal second game of the series at home at TOYOTA PARK on Saturday, Nov. 7 (7:30 p.m. CT, Fox Soccer Channel/FSE).

The Fire have been one of the league's most successful teams, reaching the playoffs in 11 of 12 seasons, advancing to the MLS Cup Final three times, and taking home the MLS Cup Championship in their inaugural 1998 season. Last season, the Fire defeated the Revolution in the Eastern Conference Semifinal series, but fell to the eventual MLS Cup Champion Columbus Crew in the Eastern Conference Final.

Eight teams qualify for the MLS Cup Playoffs; the top two teams in each conference, East and West, as well as four wildcard teams - the teams with the next highest points total at the end of the season regardless of conference. The playoffs will kickoff with conference semifinal series, which consist of two games, home and away, and are conducted in an aggregate goal format. The winners from each series will face off in a single-elimination conference championship, hosted by the team with the higher seed. The two Conference Champions will play in the 2009 MLS Cup Final, to be held on Sunday, November 22, at Qwest Field in Seattle, Washington.
