Chicago Fire FC News Release
CHICAGO (August 25, 2014) - Chicago is no stranger to the "Beautiful Game," with roots extending back to the late 1800's and a rich history that has followed the sport for decades. The Chicago Fire Soccer Club will pay tribute to that history at its upcoming match against FC Dallas on Saturday, August 30 at 7:30 p.m. CT, presented by Crush. Tickets are available for purchase here.
The Fire will honor the 30th anniversary of the 1984 NASL Chicago Sting Championship team with a special on-field halftime tribute, which will include former Sting stars and Owner and Founder Lee B. Stern. In addition, the Club will feature a video montage at the half highlighting key moments in Chicago soccer history and the contributions of other local professional soccer teams.
"The game of soccer has come a long way in this city, as evident by the outpouring of support we saw for the U.S. Men's National Team during the World Cup this year," said Chicago Fire COO Atul Khosla. "We look forward to acknowledging the sport's growth and legacy by recognizing those who blazed the trail for the game and contributed to Chicago's affluent soccer history."
Fire players will play their part in the tribute by wearing Chicago Sting-inspired Adidas T-shirts during their pre-game warm-ups. The limited edition shirts will also be available in the Fan Shop for purchase.
