December 14, 2019 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Owen Sound Attack News Release

The Attack continued their northern swing with a stop against the Wolves on a Sudbury Saturday Night. Coming off a loss to the Soo Greyhounds the night prior, Owen Sound was hoping for a better performance against a Wolves squad missing their superstar Quinton Byfield. Byfield and Attack captain Aidan Dudas are both with Team Canada as they head to Europe for the World Juniors. Attack Head Coach Al Letang is also overseas, so Jordan Hill continued behind the bench for the away team. Nick Chenard received the start for the Bears and Christian Purboo got the nod for the Wolfpack.

The Attack didn't look like a team that played the night prior, jumping out to an early advantage in the game. Igor Chibrikov and Mark Woolley both missed the game with injuries so Adam McMaster rounded out the defensive corps, a departure from his usual position up front. McMaster made his presence felt early on the backend, setting up Josh Samanski who almost scored his first career goal, but Kaleb Pearson was there to clean up the rebound and give the Attack an early 1-0 lead. Owen Sound continued the pressure, holding the Wolves to just three shots in the period while they put up 12 of their own. Late in the first, Kaleb Lawrence found himself in front of the net where he could tap in a Carter Robertson point shot for his first career OHL goal and a 2-0 Owen Sound advantage after 20.

The 2nd period began with Nick Chenard on top of his game. Less than a minute in, he was able to deny overage forward David Levin on a breakaway to keep the Attack up 2. Play opened up with multiple chances for both teams, but Chenard and Purboo shut the door. It wasn't until after the ten minute mark when Owen Sound was able to strike again. Adam McMaster flew in from the backend and wired a shot off the post and in to give the Attack a 3-0 lead. Kaleb Pearson scored his second of the game minutes later on a drawn up play off the faceoff. Griffin Wilson won the draw, Pearson immediately fired and Owen Sound was up by four after forty minutes of play. Shots on goal were 22-14 for the Attack after two periods.

Owen Sound looked to maintain their 4-0 advantage heading to the final period of play. Sudbury got the better of the opening minutes of the period, but Chenard was there to deny any of their scoring opportunities. Owen Sound had their own in the frame, but nothing was getting by Purboo in the Sudbury net. After a late penalty call against the Attack, the Owen Sound defense kept things strong in their own end to hold on for the 4-0 win and Nick Chenard would pick up his first career shutout making 20 saves in the victory.

The Hatten Home Building Centre Hardest Working Player of the Game was Kaleb Lawrence. The Owen Sound Bug Juice North Stars Three Stars were Brady Lyle, Kaleb Pearson and Nick Chenard.

The Owen Sound Attack are back in action tomorrow afternoon against the North Bay Battalion. Puck drop is scheduled for 2 p.m. You can watch the game on Rogers Grey County Channel 53, listen on 560 CFOS Bear Radio or stream at OHLLive.com.
