Checkers Take Playoffs To The Road Tonight Against The Stingrays

Charlotte N.C. - Game three of the South Division semi-final series between the Checkers and Stingrays moves to the North Charleston Coliseum for the first time in the series. In two games at The Extreme Ice Center in Indian Trail, N.C., the Checkers managed to win both contests by the same score of 5-3.

Games three and four will be played in South Carolina with game five held there as well if necessary. Also if necessary, game six moves back to The Extreme Ice Center and game seven would go back to South Carolina.

MONSTER SECOND PERIOD PROPELS CHECKERS OVER STINGRAYS AGAIN, WIN 5-3
Indian Trail, N.C. - The Checkers tallied five goals in the second period and staved off a late attack by South Carolina winning 5-3 and taking a 2-0 advantage in the series. All five Checkers goals came from different players.

THE SOUTH DIVISION BREAKDOWN
The Florida Everblades defeated the Gwinnett Gladiators in the first two games in the series in Florida. Despite a late lead for Gwinnett on Saturday night, Everblades captain and ECHL leading scorer Kevin Baker proved to be clutch and tied the contest on a late power-play goal. Forward Jacob McFlikier won the game for the Everblades during the first overtime session and helped Florida to a 2-0 series lead. The winner of this playoff series battles the winner of the Charlotte vs. South Carolina series.
CHECKERS ON RADIO FOR PLAYOFFS!
In coordination with the official radio home of the Charlotte Checkers, WFNZ, the team will be broadcasting several games through the station during at least the first round of the post season.
Games one, two, four, five and six will be carried live on WFNZ 610 AM. Also, all games will be available through the B2 Network and streamed online for free at www.gocheckers.com or by clicking mms://208.67.186.169/charlotte at the time each game is scheduled to begin.
"Playing at Extreme Ice may limit the number of fans in attendance but no one has to miss anything that takes place during the games because of our great relationship with WFNZ and the B2 Network," remarked Shaya. "There will be some special guests during the broadcasts and everyone will be excited for the best time of the year."
All broadcasts will begin as the puck drops at 7:00 p.m.
KEYS TO GAME THREE
Score first: The Checkers showed they can win a game even if they don't score first. That kind of resiliency doesn't show up in a statistics sheet but it could mean all the difference in a seven game series. However, in a road game, Charlotte wants to take the crowd out early and get a jump on South Carolina then control the pace of the game as it continues.
No bad penalties: The Checkers don't want to make the same mistake that South Carolina has been making the previous two games-and that's being undisciplined! The Stingrays couldn't help themselves to numerous dumb and uncalled for penalties. This gave Charlotte the chance they needed to hold onto a late lead during games one and two.
Continued strong play from Jakaitis: The Checkers goaltender played a strong second game despite a first game injury. He looked unnerved as he helped his team capture a 2-0 series lead on Saturday. He has the ability to steal a game and with the Stingrays essentially playing for their lives today, he might see quite a bit of rubber.
The Checkers are playing their 16th season of play as a member of the ECHL. In the team's 16-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 12 times including five consecutive playoff appearances to date.
