Bridgeport, CT- Anthony Chavez found himself in a spot that most pitchers would have struggled with. In the second inning, Raul Marval missed a chance at a routine double-play which loaded the bases with no one out. Chavez, with the face of a Aztec-Warrior, took no thought as to what the situation was, and turned it into what he wanted it to be.
He struck out Ben Candelaria, and then forced a hard one hop back to the mound in which he turned, fired to second, then the relay went over to first. It ended the inning as Chavez slowly walked off the mound looking like it''s all in a day''s work.
He would retire the next 20 batters he faced in what would become the best performances the league has seen this year. Nuff said.
The Surf scored a run in the first, third, and sixth inning to give Chavez just enough runs (3-0 lead) to breeze through the game, and then Juan Thomas added some excitment in the eighth inning with a "Large" two-run blast. That home run gives the Surf 799 in the six year history of the team, and it gives Juan his 11th on the year.
Angel Miranda is the lossing pitcher for the Bluefish and hasn''t won a game since June 5th.
Tommorow Mark Rutherford takes the mound as he try''s to match what his teammates have done this season, and that''s pitch great games.
