Allentown Ambassadors News Release

The Allentown Ambassadors fell behind 4-0 after two innings and never got close, losing 7-1 to the Berkshire Black Bears Friday night in Pittsfield.

Berkshire jumped all over Ambassador starter John Dillinger. In the first, three singles in a row from Jose Mateo, Mark Burnett and Chris Briones, all on the first pitch, made it 1-0. Then, after a Manny Crespo walk, Ryan Jones hit a sacrifice fly and then Pete Paciorek singled to make it 3-0. Cedrick Harris threw Crespo out at the plate on a Brady Williams fly out to end the inning.

Berkshire would add another in the second, and two unearned runs in the fourth. In that inning, Kevin Forbes hit a one out double, then PJ Johnston popped out, but Mateo would reach on a Tito Cruz error. He got to second on a throwing error on Dillinger, stole third base on a delayed steal when the Ambassador infield fell asleep, and would score on a Briones single.

The Ambassadors got their only run in the game in the fifth off Berkshire starter Tony Harden and it was unearned, with Greg Schmidt scoring on a Brady Williams error. Harden pitched six innings, allowing the one unearned run on four hits. He walked one and struck out six.

The Black Bears would get another run in the sixth and cruise to the win. Forbes finished the night 3-4 with two doubles and two runs scored. The win went to Harden, who is now 6-1. Dillinger takes the loss. He is now 5-3. The Ambassadors fall to 2-6 and drop behind Berkshire into last place with the loss. Berkshire is now 2-5. The two teams play the second game of the series tomorrow night with Nolan Fry taking the mound for the Ambassadors.
