Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
MEMPHIS, TN - Billy Burns' home run wasn't enough to prevent another tight loss for Omaha in Memphis, as they fell 4-3 in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at AutoZone Park.
Memphis took the lead in the bottom of the 1st; Max Schrock singled, Rangel Ravelo doubled him home, and Alex Mejia singled in Schrock for a 2-0 edge.
Omaha tied it in the top of the 2nd. Paulo Orlando and Humberto Arteaga singled, and with 1 out, Jack Lopez singled to bring Orlando around. With 2 away, Nicky Lopez singled to plate Arteaga, making it 2-2.
Michael Mariot went 2 innings in a spot-start for Omaha, who had scheduled starter Glenn Sparkman called up to the Kansas City Royals earlier today. Mariot allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, with 2 strikeouts and no walks. Sam Selman tossed a scoreless 3rd, and Josh Staumont kept the game tied through the 4th and 5th.
Memphis regained the lead, however, against Staumont (L, 1-3) in the bottom of the 6th. Luke Voit homered, Oscar Mercado doubled, and Randy Arozarena knocked in Mercado with an RBI double, putting the Redbirds ahead 4-2.
Dakota Hudson threw 4 frames for the Redbirds; he was charged with 2 runs, 6 hits, and 1 walk. He struck out 2.
Billy Burns cracked his 3rd home run of the season in the top of the 7th, reducing the deficit to 4-3. Richard Lovelady wrapped up 1.1 innings of scoreless relief by stranding the bases loaded in the bottom of the inning, and Kevin Lenik kept Omaha within a run in the 8th.
But the Chasers again couldn't rally against the strong Memphis bullpen. Tyler Lyons (1 IP), Austin Gomber (3 IP) (W, 5-3), and Andrew Morales (1 IP) (S, 3) held Omaha in check over the final 5 innings, helping the Redbirds take the hard-fought series.
The Storm Chasers (40-48) will be off for the next 3 days during the Triple-A All-Star break. They will resume the season by opening a 4-game homestand at Werner Park against Memphis on Thursday at 7:05.
Single-game tickets are available for all remaining 2018 Storm Chasers home contests, and may be purchased online at www.omahastormchasers.com/tickets, or through the Werner Park Ticket Office during open hours from noon until 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday either in-person or by calling (402) 738-5100.
