September 19, 2019 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Charlottetown Islanders News Release
As announced this morning on the Ocean 100 morning show, hockey will once again fill the Charlottetown airwaves on Saturday night as the Charlottetown Islanders and Stingray Media have teamed up to broadcast Saturday Night Hockey on Ocean 100 for another season.
George Matthews, Cory Arsenault, and Norman Beck will combine to bring you all 21 Saturday night games on the Islanders 2019-2020 schedule, along with all Islanders playoff games. Matthews, the legendary play-by-play commentator who has called over 1000 NHL games as the voice of the Columbus Blue Jackets, will take the lead on all games, while long-time colour commentator Arsenault will split time with Beck, a former UPEI Panther great who was an integral member of the 1984-85 Men's hockey team that captured the school's first AUAA Championship.
"The partnership between Stingray Media and the Charlottetown Islanders has been a major part in a new era of major junior hockey on Prince Edward Island" said Islanders president of operations Craig Foster. "Fans all across this province now have access to both high-quality hockey and high-quality analysis on Saturday nights. We're thrilled to be able to expand on this partnership for another season."
"Canadians grow up associating Saturday night with hockey, and the Charlottetown Islanders hockey broadcast is high quality programming for us." said Mike Shannon, Operations Manager for Stingray Charlottetown. "The fact that the Islanders value community service as much as we do makes this an easy partnership."
The Saturday night schedule for the Islanders includes a number of high-profile matchups. Some of the notable games include:
First broadcast of the season - September 21st Halifax Mooseheads
Facing the defending Memorial Cup Champs - October 26th at Rouyn-Noranda Huskies
