Charlotte Checkers News Release

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The San Diego Gulls, top affiliate of the NHL's Anaheim Ducks, announced Wednesday that they signed Bryan Moore of Indian Trail, N.C., to an American Hockey League contract. Moore, a former Jr. Checker and Checkers stick boy, is the first local player to sign with a professional hockey team.

Moore, 21, recently completed his third season in the Ontario Hockey League, one of the top junior leagues in North America. In 181 total games with Sarnia and Sault Ste. Marie, he totaled 141 points, 59 goals and 82 assists to go along with 255 penalty minutes.

Moore, who also played junior hockey for the USHL's Sioux Falls Stampede, attended development camps with the Carolina Hurricanes and New York Rangers last summer as an undrafted free agent. He also played with the Rangers at the Traverse City prospects tournament last fall.

San Diego, which is aligned with Charlotte in the AHL's Western Conference, is preparing to play its inaugural season.
