San Jose Barracuda News Release
SAN JOSE - The San Jose Barracuda (@SJBarracuda) presented by Barracuda Networks and Barracuda General Manager Joe Will officially announced today that the team has signed defenseman Gus Young (@GusYoung2) to an AHL contract for the 2015-16 season. Young is the first player ever to sign an AHL contract for the San Jose Barracuda.
The 23 year-old Young recorded 15 points (5-10=15) and 37 penalty minutes in 64 games with Worcester of the American Hockey League (AHL) last season. In his first professional year, Worcester's Unsung Hero led the team with a +14 rating and added 60 shots on goal.
Prior to turning pro in 2014, Young spent four seasons with Yale University (2010-2014), helping the Bulldogs win the 2013 NCAA National Hockey Championship. Young was named to the 2013 Frozen Four All-Tournament Team during that championship run, registering an assist in the Championship Game vs. Quinnipiac.
The six-foot-two. 200-pound native of Dedham, MA was originally selected by the Colorado Avalanche in the seventh round (184th overall) in the 2009 NHL Draft. Young is currently participating in the San Jose Sharks Development Camp in San Jose.
The San Jose Barracuda will begin play at the SAP Center at San Jose in October of 2015. Score season tickets today by calling 408-977-4747 or by visiting www.SJBarracuda.com.
