Charlotte FC Needs to Turn Performances into Wins Says Nathan Byrne
March 8, 2023 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Charlotte FC News Release
In the build up to this week's headline match up against Atlanta United, Charlotte FC defender Nathan Byrne reflects on the 1-3 loss against St. Louis City that left the team "angry."
"No one's happy losing a match and if you are, then there's a problem already," said Byrne. "We were angry with the way that we didn't take our chances like we should have. The goals we know already that we made mistakes. I think all of it in general, we're frustrated with because we were we're happy with how we're going in terms of performances, we just need to turn those into wins."
Charlotte FC has an opportunity to make a statement and earn that first win against their regional rivals. With a little extra meaning to this match, Byrne stresses that it's important to approach every match with the intensity and fire that comes in a derby.
"I've played a lot of Derby matches and for me it's more, you just have to take it as another game. You should go into every game wanting to give one hundred percent and you want to win every duel and every battle that you have. I'm not going to approach it any differently than I would any other game but I think in Derby matches, this comes down to controlling your emotions and using them in the right way."
Atlanta and Charlotte hold the two highest average attendances numbers in MLS and are known league-wide as having some of the best fanbases in the region. Byrne has nothing but praise for the Charlotte fans and requests their continued support because it makes a difference.
"I can only compliment our fans since I've been here. They've been amazing. For me the best fans I've seen so far in MLS. I can only speak on our fans and they've only got behind the team supported us in good and bad moments. And we need that to continue because it really does help us."
