HARRISON, N.J. (Aug. 12, 2015) - The Charlotte Independence and New York Red Bulls II battled to a one-all draw on Wednesday evening at Red Bull Arena. An early strike from the Independence's Daniel Jackson was cancelled out by a powerful header from New York's Stefano Bonomo.

Both sides started the game with definitive game plans. New York pressed high into Charlotte's defense, but the Independence was determined to beat the press on the ground. It was a game of limited chances, and Charlotte opened the scoring in the 23rd minute.

A long ball over the top from goalkeeper Matt Lampson sailed over its intended target, Tomasz Zahorski, but an alert Jackson altered his run to put the ball in front of himself. He rounded the keeper with a deft touch and flicked the ball into the side-netting to make it 1-0 in favor of the visitors.

Charlotte's advantage seem to dissipate at halftime and New York's adjustments began to pay off. A well worked short corner in the 71st minute put both sides level. Bonomo slipped between two Charlotte defenders and drove his header into the net.

For Charlotte, it was a missed opportunity to make up ground on the playoff race. With nine games left, the window to close that gap is rapidly closing. The Independence will try and improve its road form on Saturday when the club travels to Pittsburgh to face the Riverhounds. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00pm at Highmark Stadium.
