CANTON, OH - The Canton Charge (4-1), powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, extended their winning streak against the Erie BayHawks (1-4) to six in a row after a 124-118 victory at the Memorial Civic Center on Wednesday night.
All five Charge starters scored in double figures and three players scored 20+ points, led by Malik Newman's 26 to go along with four assists and three steals in 37 minutes. Sheldon Mac came off the bench to provide 24 points on 8-of-15 shooting with nine boards and two steals in 24 minutes. J.P. Macura netted 20 points with five steals and six rebounds in 31 minutes. Marques Bolden supplied 19 points, seven rebounds and two blocks in 25 minutes. Sir'Dominic Pointer scored 14 points, grabbed nine boards, nabbed two steals and swatted two blocks in 34 minutes.
There were no lead changes after Canton took a 2-0 advantage to begin the game, but Erie hung tough throughout. The BayHawks got within one possession six separate times in the fourth quarter, but each time the Charge responded with a bucket to reestablish their advantage. The Charge forced 28 turnovers that resulted in 30 points, adding to their second-best in the League average of 12.5 steals per game by swiping 15 tonight.
The BayHawks were led by Josh Gray's 41 points on 17-of-28 shooting with eight assists and three steals in 39 minutes. Fellow Two-Way Player Zylan Cheatham posted a double-double of 16 points and 15 rebounds in 36 minutes. On assignment from the Nuggets, Vlatko �anèar scored seven points in 22 minutes. Jalen Adams added 22 points, nine rebounds and seven assists in 34 minutes.
