South Bay Lakers News Release

DES MOINES, IA - The South Bay Lakers dropped their second consecutive road contest as they lost to the Iowa Wolves, 129-105, on Wednesday night. Devontae Cacok continued his dominant start to the season for South Bay (2-3), posting his fifth consecutive double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Jaylen Nowell led Iowa (2-3) to the win with 25 points.

South Bay struggled to score in the first quarter and trailed the Wolves by 15 points, 36-21, after one. Jordan Murphy and Nowell combined for 17 points in the opening frame to lead the home team. Despite a 10-0 South Bay run to open the second quarter, the Wolves went into the half with a 65-46 lead behind 11 second-quarter points from two-way guard Jordan McLaughlin. Cacok posted eight points and eight rebounds in the first half to pace the Lakers.

Iowa extended their lead in the third quarter, 91-61, behind 11 points from Nowell. South Bay found their offense in the fourth quarter, led by 16 points in the frame from Andre Ingram, but it wasn't enough to overcome Iowa's big lead.

Nowell's game-high 25 points guided Iowa to victory, while Naz Reid pitched in a 15-point, 15-rebound double-double. McLaughlin (16 points, 12 assists, four steals) and Murphy (11 points, 10 rebounds) also recorded double-doubles and Lindell Wigginton added 25 points off the bench. Barry Brown also scored in double figures with 11 points. Iowa made 26 three-pointers, led by seven apiece from Nowell and Wigginton.

Cacok's fifth straight double-double provided a bright spot for South Bay and Gary Payton II tallied his third double-double of the season with 14 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, three steals and three blocks. South Bay's veterans got in a scoring rhythm as Ingram finished the game with 16 points (5-6 3FG) and Travis Wear scored 15 of his own. David Stockton (12 points), Talen Horton-Tucker (11 points) and Kostas Antetokounmpo (10 points, nine rebounds) all had double-digit scoring nights for the Lakers.

South Bay will return home to host the Sioux Falls Skyforce on Sunday, November 24 at 5:00pm from the UCLA Health Training Center. The Lakers beat the Skyforce, 121-118, in the first meeting of the season on November 14.
