Charge Come up Short to Mad Ants

The Canton Charge suffered their fourth-straight defeat at the hands of the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, 98-94, at the Civic Center on Wednesday night. The loss drops Canton to 26-22 with a pair of games remaining in the regular season, both against Erie. Fort Wayne improves their record to 13-35 on the year, but the Charge finish with the edge in the season series 4-3.

The Charge held an 85-77 lead with 7:48 left in the game before Fort Wayne went on an 11-2 run to tie it, with Cameron Jones scoring five points during that run. Canton missed five consecutive shots as Fort Wayne then pulled ahead for a 94-91 advantage with 1:38 left to play. The Mad Ants had an opportunity to put the game away at the free-throw line, but missed five consecutive attempts at one point. The Charge, however, struggled to get shots to fall as they missed seven out of their last eight and were 6-of-25 for 24% from the field over the entire fourth quarter.

Luke Harangody finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds in 40 minutes for his ninth double-double in just his 14th game with the Charge this season. Antoine Agudio provided 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting with four assists and two steals in 39 minutes. Dante Milligan added a solid effort of six points, 11 rebounds, two steals and three blocks in just 24 minutes. T.J. Campbell contributed 16 points, six assists and two steals in 44 minutes.

Jones finished with a team-high 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting in 22 minutes off the bench for the Mad Ants. Ron Howard had 14 points with five rebounds and three steals in 35 minutes from the point position. Stephen Graham added 15 points and four assists with five turnovers 26 minutes. Vernon Macklin, on assignment from the Detroit Pistons, had eight points, 12 rebounds, five assists and two steals in 36 minutes.

Canton will head to Erie for the penultimate game of the regular season for a matchup with the BayHawks at 7:00 p.m. this Friday night. The Charge can clinch a playoff berth in their first-ever season in the D-League with a victory Friday over the BayHawks or a loss by the Texas Legends, who also play on Friday.
