CANTON CHARGE 2017-18 TRAINING CAMP ROSTER Cavaliers Two-Way Players, Kendrick Perkins Lead List of 16 Players
The Canton Charge, powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, today announced full list of players that will compete together when the team opens training camp this Tuesday. The full training camp squad consists of three rookies selected in the 2017 NBA G League Draft, a pair of Two-Way Cleveland Cavaliers players, two returning Charge players, three affiliate players, two players acquired in trades and four players added via the team's local open tryout.
Thirteen-year NBA veteran F/C Kendrick Perkins, G Isaac Hamilton and F JaCorey Williams all join the Charge as affiliate players after being in training camp with the Cavaliers. Perkins was a member of the 2008 NBA Champion Boston Celtics who also has played for the Cavaliers previously as well as the New Orleans Pelicans and Oklahoma City Thunder. Hamilton played three years at UCLA, starting in all 104 games he played and averaging 13.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists. Williams was named the Conference USA 2017 Player of the Year after averaging 17.3 points on .533 shooting and 7.3 boards in 36 games last season.
In today's NBA G League Draft, Canton traded their own picks, #19 and #46 overall, to the Memphis Hustle for picks #17 and #69 overall. The Charge took F Maksym Pustozvonov from Ukraine with that first round selection, followed by G Jalen Jones in the third round spot and G Gokul Natesan with #97 overall.
G/F John Holland returns to the Charge as the first of two Cleveland Cavaliers Two-Way Contract players. Holland was the NBA G League Impact Player of the Year last season, averaging 22.9 points on .481 shooting with 4.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals in a league-high 38.9 minutes per game. G London Perrantes fills the other Two-Way Contract, coming off a four-year career at the University of Virginia and an NBA Las Vegas Summer League stint where he averaged 10.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.3 steals in 28.4 minutes per game for the Miami Heat.
PF Gerald Beverly returns to the Charge after a successful rookie season in Canton and NBA Summer League stint with the Cavs in Vegas. PG Mike Williams is also coming back to Canton for his second season. G Akeem Springs (Minnesota), F Tyrell Tate (Fayetteville State), and local college products G Kevin Johnson (Cincinnati) and F Jon Harris (Cleveland State) are coming to camp from Canton's local tryouts. G Arthur Edwards and G Marcus Thornton join the team after being acquired in a trade from the Maine Red Claws earlier this preseason.
Training camp begins at the team's official practice facility, Edgewood Community Center, on Tuesday, October 24th. Canton will have a preseason three-way scrimmage with Fort Wayne and Grand Rapids in Auburn Hills, MI on Saturday, October 28th.
