OTTAWA - Eduard Pinto hit his second home run of the season to help the Ottawa Champions cruise past the Trois-Rivières Aigles 10-2 on Sunday for their first series win of the 2019 campaign.

Pinto's solo homer just stayed fair, as it was hooking down the right field line. The home run in the fourth inning gave the Champions a 6-0 lead. Pinto ended 3-for-4 with his first three-hit game of the season.

"I wanted to stay up the middle," said Pinto. "One of my teammates told me to open my shoulder, and I practiced that and that's why I put the ball in play."

Phillippe Aumont (2-1) was in the zone, recording a season-high 11 strikeouts through eight innings, allowing just one earned run and no walks. Aumont is the first Champions pitcher this season to pitch past the sixth inning, and the first Ottawa Champions pitcher to strikeout 10-plus batters in a game since Sept. 2, 2018.

Aumont says that his curve-ball was on and that it was one of the reasons why he had a lot of success.

"My mindset going into game was to throw a lot of change-ups, but it just wasn't as sharp today," said Aumont. "The cruve-ball was a little bit more on today because they had a lot of right-handed batters. I felt like I could use that to my advantage and keep them off the fastball."

Later on, Steve Brown capped off a 3-for-5 game when he smacked a double to deep to center in the bottom of the eighth, scoring Pinto and Maikol Gonzalez, which put the Champions up 10-2. Brown finished the game with two runs scored and three RBI.

Ottawa scored four runs in the third inning to break the game open. Malik Collymore hit a single to center with the bases loaded that drove in Brian Portelliand Leonardo Reginatto. That made it 5-0 Ottawa.

Aigles starter Chris Murphy (0-3) allowed five earned runs on seven hits, walking two with no strikeouts in three innings. Trois-Rivieres bullpen tossed the final five innings, allowing seven walks and five runs.

The Ottawa Champions will head on a six game road-trip starting on Tue., June 4 against the Quebec Capitales. Austin Chrismon will make his fourth start of the season, opposed by Capitales right-hander Matt Marsh.
