Champions Honour Bob Monette
July 16, 2018 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Ottawa Champions News Release
OTTAWA - With recent news of Orleans Councillor Bob Monette retiring at the end of his term this fall, the Ottawa Champions will dedicate next Thursday's game to Monette - one of the original champions for Ottawa baseball.
Former Champions team president David Gourlay will present a special pre-game ceremony, complete with a first pitch from the Councillor's grand sons.
When the Ottawa Champions received their name, it was intended to honour champions of the community, and those who vouch for Ottawa baseball when it matters.
Bob Monette's work at the city council chambers for the last 12 years was the perfect example of that. The veteran Councillor from Orleans ward was baseball's advocate at city council, and instrumental in ensuring the continued success of the sport when its future in the Nation's Capital was in question.
The success of the Champions can be partially attributed to Monette's work, and the entire organization will miss his presence on the big stage. He is also a season ticket holder at Champions games since the team began play in 2015.
Tickets for Bob Monette Night and the rest of the Champions upcoming homestand with the Quebec Capitales can be purchased by calling 613-745-BALL (2255), visiting the RCGT Park box office, or www.ottawachampions.com.
