Ottawa Champions News Release
OTTAWA - The Ottawa Champions rallied back from an early 3-0 deficit, but couldn't hold off the New Jersey Jackals who won 7-3 on Saturday evening at Yogi Berra Stadium.
RHP Edilson Alvarez had a rough start to the game, giving up three runs in the first inning including a two-run home run by 2B Seth Spivey. However, Alvarez was able to settle in to the ball game and only gave up two more runs over his next six innings of work.
The Champions got good production from the top of their order on the evening, with the one through six batters each recording a hit. LF Coco Johnson, DH Sebastien Boucher and 3B Jordan Caillouet each scored a run. Boucher, Caillouet and C Zak Colby earned the RBIs.
2B Jeremy Delgado made his Champions debut, reaching base once. Delgado was a member of the Salina Stockade, one of the Can-Am League's showcase teams, earlier in the season.
The Champions had nine hits and left nine runners on base in the ballgame.
Ottawa will get a rare Saturday off before welcoming the Sussex County Miners to RCGT Park for a three-game set getting underway Monday, July 9 at 7:05 p.m. Tickets for every Champions game can be purchased at ottawachampions.com, in-person at the RCGT Park box office or by calling the Champs at 613-745-2255 (BALL).
