New Jersey Jackals News Release

The New Jersey Jackals took on the Ottawa Champions Saturday night, during the rubber match of the three game series. The Jackals took the series with a 7-3 victory.

The Jackals hitters started out hot against Ottawa's starting pitcher, Edilson Alvarez. They plated three runs on three hits, including a two run homerun from third baseman Seth Spivey.

The scoring continued in the bottom of the third as first baseman Danny Canela singled to bring home Kevin Torres, upping the Jackals lead 4-0.

Ottawa scored its first run of the game in the top of the fourth when third baseman Jordan Caillouet hit a ground rule double to score Sebastian Boucher. Cailouet then scored on a single from first baseman Zak Colby.

In the top of the fifth, the Champions added another run on an RBI groundout from Boucher.

Jackals starting pitcher, Mariel Checo, exited the game during the sixth inning with men on first and third. Jose Velez came in relief and got Tyler Nordgren to groundout into a double play. Checo finished with a line of five and a third innings pitched, three earned runs, and three strikeouts. Checo picked up his first win of the season.

The first two batters in the top of the next inning got on base via an error and a double, respectively. Velez escaped the inning scoreless, behind some wonderful defensive plays from his infielders.

David Harris hit is 15th homerun of the season in the bottom of the seventh, giving the Jackals a 5-3 lead.

Jordan Hinshaw added a couple of insurance runs after doubling in the bottom of the eighth.

With having the next two days off, the Jackals will next face the Rockland Boulders. The three game series includes a double-header at Palisades Credit Union Park on July 10th, followed by a day game at Yogi Berra Stadium the following day.

First pitch is scheduled for 11:05 AM.
