Ottawa Champions News Release

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Champions couldn't find an answer to a strong Quebec Capitales performance and fell 7-3 at RCGT Park Thursday evening.

"I thought Miles pitched well," said manager Hal Lanier. "The first four innings he gave up a couple of runs, but we came back. In these last four games, we have to try to win as many as we can to save face a little bit. Hopefully we can leave on a good note."

Ottawa were within striking distance through the majority of the game. RHP Miles Sheehan was cruising through his start, having given up two runs heading into the sixth inning. However, DH Zach Wilson took Sheehan over the right field wall for a three-run home run in that frame to give Quebec a 5-2 lead.

The Capitales would add to their advantage via a CF Kalian Sams homer in the eighth inning, making the score 7-3.

RHP Lazaro Blanco of the Capitales was dominant through seven innings of work, giving up a lone earned run to pick up the win.

Ottawa was able to get to the Cuban in the fourth inning, when 3B Jordan Caillouet drove in DH Sebastien Boucher. Caillouet then came around to score himself with RF Ozney Guillen notching the RBI.

The rest of the offence for Ottawa came in the eighth inning. With SS Daniel Bick on second following a double, Boucher singled to cut the Quebec lead to 7-3.

LHP Evan Rutckyj threw four frames in relief for the Champions, conceding one earned run while striking out three.

Ottawa will wrap-up their season with a four-game series against the Rockland Boulders that gets underway tomorrow, Friday, August 31 at 7:05 p.m. Tickets for all Champions home games are available at www.ottawachampions.com, in-person at the RCGT Park box office, or by calling 613-745-BALL (2255).
