Champions Ahead 8-3 in Suspended Game

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Champions had no problems with the Rockland Boulders Wednesday night, but were no match for Mother Nature. The Champions were leading 8-3 when thick fog rolled in to Pallsades Credit Union Park and the game was suspended.

The contest will be resumed at a later date with Ottawa up by five with two outs in the top of the eighth inning.

RHP Austin Chrismon gave up three runs over the first two innings, but then settled down and held the Boulders off the scoreboard for the next four frames. The offence mounted a furious comeback, scoring eight unanswered runs.

Rockland starter RHP David Palladino had a no-hitter going into the fourth, when he was struck by a line drive from RF Steve Brown. Palladino finished the inning, but wasn't the same after the comebacker.

In the fifth inning, Ottawa got three runs across when CF Chase Harris scored on an error and Palladino walked in two more runs. Ottawa plated two more in the sixth and one in the seventh to give themselves a five-run cushion.

C Zak Colby went 2-for-3 with a trio of RBIs and two walks, while SS Daniel Bick notched two RBIs despite going hitless.

RHP Ryan Leach was on the mound for the Champions when the game was suspended.

Ottawa will now travel to face the New Jersey Jackals in a three-game series beginning on Thursday, July 5. The Champions will return to RCGT Park for a series with the Sussex County Miners that gets underway on Monday, July 8.
