
CFL names players of the week

Toronto, ON - (November 12, 2008) - Ricky Ray, Ryan Phillips, Doug Brown, and Jason Armstead were named the CFL's top players for the Division Semi-Finals, the Canadian Football League announced today.
Players of the Week are selected for on-field excellence by members of the Canadian football broadcasters.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
QB - Ricky Ray - Edmonton Eskimos
Edmonton Eskimos 29 @ Winnipeg Blue Bombers 21
Highlights / Key Stats:
Ricky Ray completed 27 of 37 passes for 303 yards in the Edmonton Eskimos road victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Ray also rushed four times for 25 yards. Ray spread the ball around nicely to his receivers with eight separate individuals recording catches.
Ricky Ray completed 422 of 605 passes for a league leading 5,663 yards in the 2008 regular season. Ray also threw 26 touchdown passes against 17 interceptions for a passer efficiency rating of 101.8. This is Ricky Ray's fourth player of the week honour this season.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
DB - Ryan Phillips - B.C. Lions
B.C. Lions 33 @ Saskatchewan Roughriders 12
Highlights / Key Stats:
Ryan Phillips recorded three tackles, two interceptions and a touchdown as the B.C. Lions beat the Saskatchewan Roughriders 33-12 to advance to the West Final. Phillips returned his first interception 26 yards and took the second back for a 54-yard touchdown.
Ryan Phillips recorded 43 tackles and a fumble recovery in the 2008 season.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
KR - Jason Armstead - Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Highlights / Key Stats:
Jason Armstead returned nine punts for 122 yards including a 93-yard touchdown midway through the second quarter. Armstead took a punt deep in his own end on one bounce and took it right through the middle of the Edmonton defence before sprinting past kicker Noel Prefontaine on the way to his second punt return touchdown of the year.
During the regular season Jason Armstead returned 76 punts for 728 yards and a touchdown. Armstead also returned 44 punts for 960 yards and three missed field goals for 79 yards. This is Armstead's third player of the week award this season, all coming in the last seven weeks.

DT - Doug Brown - Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Highlights / Key Stats:
Doug Brown had six tackles, a sack and a tackle for loss as the Bombers fell to the Edmonton Eskimos on Saturday. Brown sacked quarterback Ricky Ray for a loss of nine yards and tackled running back Calvin McCarty for a two yard loss in the game.
Doug Brown is the East nominee for Outstanding Defensive Player and was named the Most Outstanding Player, Outstanding Defensive Player and Outstanding Canadian for the Bombers.
