CFL names players of the week
Published on August 17, 2004 under Canadian Football League (CFL) News Release
Offensive Player of the Week
SB â Geroy Simon #81
BC Lions
Highlights
Simon was a skilled, fluid, athletic playmaker who caught seven (7) passes for 158 yards and scored four (4) touchdowns.
Game Notes:
Simon was spectacular; he was the perfect receiver for Casey Printers' pinpoint passes. He appeared to be unstoppable because no one could engage him or take away his routes. Simon had a feel for soft spots in the coverage and knew how to exploit them. He ran outstanding patterns with speed and quickness and I felt he alone was well worth the price of admission.
1st Runner Up: Casey Printers #1, BC Lions
2nd Runner Up: Kenton Keith #28, Saskatchewan Roughriders

Defensive Player of the Week
LB - Kevin Johnson #44
Montreal Alouettes
Highlights
Johnson was a tough defender that created pressure on the offence in every way imaginable. He ended up with six (6) tackles, one (1) interception and one (1) special teams tackle.
Game Notes:
Johnson is an excellent athlete; the kind that must be accounted for on every play. His whereabouts are vital because he does so many things well and can dominate a game. I was most impressed with Johnson's pass coverage and blitzing abilities. He delivered on some big plays with a range from sideline to sideline.
1st Runner Up: Dante Marsh #31, BC Lions
2nd Runner Up: Omarr Morgan #3, Saskatchewan Roughriders
Judge: Ellison Kelly
Lineman of the Week
C â Bryan Chiu #68
Montreal Alouettes
Highlights
Chiu had smart and tough offensive line play that was highly effective.
Game Notes:
This game was a good match-up; Toronto is strong down the middle defensively and Montreal is strong down the middle offensively. The Alouettes started the game with two quick hitters up the middle and Chiu showed the ability to take on and handle usually dominant defenders. His balance and power at the point of attack was outstanding.
1st Runner Up: Uzooma Okeke #53, Montreal Alouettes
2nd Runner Up: Eric England #95, Toronto Argonauts
Judge: Ellison Kelly
Special Teams Player of the Week
P â Matt Kellett #11
Montreal Alouettes
Highlights
Excellent kicking by Kellet with four (4) field goals and 14 points scored sealed victory over the Toronto Argonauts.
Game Notes:
This was not a vintage week for special teams performers but Kellett did everything requested of him and did it well. He was good on four (4) of his five (5) field goal attempts and his one miss was not a given. Kellett placed his kickoffs high and deep and his punts had excellent hang time. Of course, the 14 points he scored was more than the winning margin.
1st Runner Up: Charles Winters #32, Toronto Argonauts
2nd Runner Up: Eddie Davis #29, Saskatchewan Roughriders
Judge: Ellison Kelly
