Club de Foot Montreal News Release
MONTREAL - Following the best regular season in its history in which the team managed to break several league and club records, CF Montréal will host Orlando City SC this Sunday at 8pm at Stade Saputo in the first round of the Eastern Conference's MLS Cup Playoffs (TVA Sports, TSN, BPM Sports, TSN 690).
This will be the first playoff game held in Montreal in six years and the third matchup against the Lions this year.
In the first meeting this season between the two teams, Montreal lost 2-0 in the season opener on February 27 at Exploria Stadium. However, Montreal came out on top 4-1 at Stade Saputo on May 7, scoring four times with goals from Joel Waterman, Djordje Mihailovic, Joaquin Torres and Zachary Brault-Guillard.
Just over one year ago, on November 7, the Floridians put an end to Montreal's hopes of making the 2021 playoffs, handing Wilfried Nancy's men a heartbreaking 2-0 defeat at Stade Saputo.
As for the visitors, they finished seventh in the Eastern Conference standings, qualifying through the final playoff spot. The Lions clinched their ticket with a 2-1 win over the Columbus Crew at home on MLS Decision Day.
Orlando finished the regular season with a 14-14-6 overall record and a -9 goal difference. The Lions' record on the road was 5-6-6. In 2021, Orlando also made the playoffs, but the team lost 3-1 in the first round to Nashville SC.
