Club de Foot Montreal News Release
MONTREAL - CF Montréal announced Tuesday the signing of French defender Rudy Camacho to a new two-year deal for the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
"We are happy to have Rudy back with the team. As he has done in the past, he will continue to bring experience to our group," said CF Montréal Sporting Director Olivier Renard. "Rudy's agent resumed talks with the Club a few days ago which allowed us to evaluate the possibility of his return. He already knows his teammates, the coaches, and the Club. It has always been our intention to preserve as much synchronicity as possible within the team."
The 2021 Defensive Player of the Year will play a fifth season with the Club. In 2021, Camacho started all 31 matches he featured in, and played 2,746 minutes. In doing so, the 30-year-old led all Montreal defenders in games started.
On November 3, the central defender scored the game-winning goal in a 2-0 victory over Houston Dynamo FC, thus tying a Club record for goals scored by a defender in a single season with three goals.
In four seasons with Montreal, he earned 79 starts in 80 games played for a total of 6,965 minutes of game time.
CF Montréal is training in Orlando until Thursday before travelling to Fort Lauderdale where the team will stay until February 13. The Club will play its second of four preseason matches against Inter Miami CF this Friday at 5pm in Fort Lauderdale.
The squad will then travel to Torreón, Mexico, on February 13, ahead of its first competitive match of the year: a Round of 16 first leg against Santos Laguna in the 2022 Concacaf Champions League. Kickoff is scheduled for February 15 at 10pm (ET) while the deciding return leg will be played in Montreal on Tuesday, February 22 at 8pm (ET).
Transaction: French defender Rudy Camacho signed a new two-season deal with CF Montréal for the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
