
Central Florida High School Hockey League Nears Start of 2016 Playoffs

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Orlando Solar Bears have continued their partnership with the Central Florida High School Hockey League (CFHSHL) for the 2016 season, which is set to begin playoff action in the Varsity division on Sunday, June 5, and CFHSHL in the Junior Varsity division on Saturday, June 4. The Varsity winner will be awarded with the Solar Bears Cup on Sunday, June 12.
The Varsity division is made up of five teams hailing from Jacksonville, Volusia, Orange, Seminole, and Brevard counties and the Junior Varsity division is comprised of four teams from Jacksonville, Orange, Seminole, and Brevard. All Varsity teams play eight games in the regular season and all Junior Varsity Teams play six games during the regular season. All CFHSHL games are played among four Central Florida ice rinks - RDV Sportsplex Ice Den, Space Coast Iceplex, Daytona International Skateway and Jacksonville Ice and Sportsplex.
The Orange County Crush currently sit atop the standings in the Varsity division and have compiled a 6-1-1 record (13 points) through the regular season. Mason Ledbetter leads the Varsity division in scoring, notching 41 points over the course of the regular season with 24 goals and 17 assists.
The top four teams in the Varsity division qualify for the playoffs, and the semifinal matchups will take place on Sunday, June 5 at the Jacksonville Ice and Sportsplex. The first game will see the #3 seed Seminole Warriors face off with the #2 seed Jacksonville Jets at 4:15 p.m. The second semifinal will take place immediately following as the #4 seed Brevard Rockets take on the top-seeded Orange Crush at 5:45 p.m.
The winners of the two semifinal contests will meet in the Varsity Championship Game on Sunday, June 12 at 4 p.m. at the RDV Sportsplex Ice Den. The championship game will also be broadcast live on Brighthouse Sports Network for those fans who cannot attend the game in person.
All four teams in the Junior Varsity division will move on to playoff action on Saturday, June 4 at the Space Coast Iceplex, with contests between the #3 seed Brevard Rockets B and #2 seed Jacksonville Jets B at 4:30 p.m. and #4 seed Seminole Warriors B and #1 seed Orange Crush B at 6 p.m.
The CFHSHL All-Star Game is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. on Friday, June 3, at the Daytona International Skateway.

The Solar Bears drop the puck on their fifth season of ECHL hockey on Saturday, Oct. 22 against the Florida Everblades at the Amway Center.
