Center to bring NBA experience to Idaho

December 30, 2002 - NBA G League (G League)
Idaho Stampede News Release

BOISE, ID (December 30, 2002) – The Idaho Stampede has signed center Antonio Harvey, adding a true center to the lineup, it was announced today by the team. To make room for the addition, guard Adrian Peterson was waived.

"He's a big guy who plays our style of basketball," said Stampede head coach Rory White. "He's a good defender and shot-blocker and he can run the floor, but most of all he brings some NBA experience and leadership to this team, which is what we're really looking for.

Harvey (6-foot-11, 245-pounds) was most recently with the Atlanta Hawks before being released in November of 2002. His other NBA stops include a five-game stint with the Seattle Supersonics during the 2001-02 season, 12 games with the Portland Trail Blazers during the 2000-01 season, 19 games with the Blazers during the 1999-2000 season, and a four-year span from 1993-1996. During that time frame, he played two seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, a season with the Vancouver Grizzlies and a season with the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Mississippi native played his college basketball at Pfeiffer University, a Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference school that participated at the NAIA level at that time. During the 1991-92 season, he led the NAIA with 4.8 blocked shots per game. He repeated that feat during the 92-93 season, again leading the NAIA with 5.3 blocks per game, and also adding 10.1 rebounds and 18.3 points per contest.

The Stampede returns to action tonight against the Sioux Falls Skyforce in the Idaho Center. Tip-off is set for 7:10 pm.
