
Catton, Cowan to Play in CHL Top Prospects Game in January

Two Spokane Chiefs, center Berkly Catton and goaltender Dawson Cowan, have been named to the rosters of the 2024 Kubota CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game to be played in Moncton, New Brunswick on January 24, 2024. Catto and Cowan are two of 18 Western Hockey League players that will compete (40 players total).
The Kubota CHL The 2024 Kubota CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game will see top NHL Draft eligible talent from the Ontario Hockey League, Quebec Maritime Junior Hockey League and Western Hockey League compete before hundreds of NHL scouts as they seek to improve their draft stock ahead of the 2024 NHL Draft.
Catton currently leads the Chiefs in scoring and is 12th in the WHL with 46 points, including a team high 22 goals, in 30 games. The Saskatoon, SK native was the first overall selection in the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft. Catton led Canada to a gold medal this summer at the 2023 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, where he served as Captain and scored at least one goal in every game of the tournament. He led all tournament scorers with eight goals, one shy of the tournament record, and tallied ten total points over five games played.
Catton also represented his country at the 2023 IIHF U18 World Championships this spring in Switzerland. There, he posted four points on one goal and three assists over seven games.
In 17 games this season, Cowan has a 3.11 GAA and .913 save percentage, tied for eighth in the WHL. The Warren, MB product was named the WHL Goaltender of the Week on November 27th, 2023 after posting a 2-1-0-0 record and a .942 save percentage. He became just the second Chiefs goaltender all-time to score a goal in a 5-2 win over Portland on November 26th.
The pair are the 17th and 18th Chiefs all-time to participate in the event. Cowan is the third goaltender from Spokane and Catton, the 12th forward.

The 40 players will be assigned to either Team Red or Team White in the new year, while captains and alternates will be announced in January. The 2024 Kubota CHL / NHL Top Prospects Game will mark the 28th edition of this showcase. Since the event was first introduced in 1996, it has featured 16 players who were later selected first overall in the NHL Draft, including Connor Bedard (2023), Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (2011) and Chris Phillips (1996).
