Tri-City Americans News Release

KENNEWICK, WA - The Tri-City Americans are proud to announce that goaltender Lukas Matecha and forward Max Curran have been named to the Kubota CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game, scheduled for January 24, 2024 in Moncton, New Brunswick.

The event features 40 of the top NHL Draft prospects from across the Canadian Hockey League.

Matecha, from Paradubice, Czechia, was selected 99th overall by the Americans in the 2023 CHL Import Draft and has had a smooth adjustment to the WHL. Through 19 games in 2023-24 Matecha has posted a 9-7-1-1 record with a 2.59 goals-against average and a .920 save percentage. His save percentage ranks fourth amongst all WHL goalies.

Curran, from Prague, Czechia, is also in his first season with the Americans after being selected 39th overall in the 2023 CHL Import Draft. Curran has had a strong start to his season with 27 points (4-23-27) in 30 games, currently sitting sixth amongst rookies in the WHL.

Prior to joining the Americans Curran suited up for Team Czechia at the Hlinka-Gretzky tournament, recording three points (1-2-3) in five games to help Czechia claim a silver medal.

This will make back-to-back seasons the Americans have had a player at the CHL/NHL Top Prospects game as defenseman Lukas Dragicevic played in last year's game.
