Cats Win In Walk Off Fashion

FORT WORTH, Texas- The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings and Fort Worth Cats went into high gear as the Cats rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning scoring two runs to stun the Wings 4-3 Wednesday night at LaGrave Field.

David Bergin led off the top of the second inning with a single, Bergin then scored on a squeeze play making it 1-0 Fort Worth.

In the top of the third inning Troy Zawadzki reached first on a hit by pitch. Two batters later with two outs in the inning Albert Carpen scored Zawadzki from second on the RBI single tying the game at 1-1.

Starting pitcher Bobby O'Neill (2-2) got a no decision pitching six innings, scattering five hits only allowing two runs.

In the top of the fifth inning Hiroki Itakura hit a double to the left field wall setting the stage for Thomas Shull who later drove in Itakura in for a 2-1 Wings lead. Carpen scored one run on a passed ball in the top of the sixth making it 3-1 Wings.

In the bottom of the sixth inning Kori Melo reached first on a base hit. Shelby Ford then belted an RBI double trimming the lead to 3-2.

Late inning drama lifted Fort Worth as Mike Wolford came in to close the game. Wolford then walked the bases loaded. This set the stage for leadoff man Cameron Monger, with bases loaded and two outs, Monger looped a two run RBI single as the Cats won in walk off fashion 4-3.

Game two of the double header is set for 8:30

WINGS AVOID RALLY; TAKE GAME TWO

FORT WORTH, Texas- The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings stormed back after getting nipped in the last inning of their first game in the double bill, storming back with six runs in the sixth inning of the second game to take a 7-5 win over the Fort Worth Cats at LaGrave Stadium Wednesday night.

It was a six run inning as Fort Worth sent four pitchers to the mound in relief of starter Stephen Nikonochik. Aaron gates led the charge for the Wings leading off the frame with a double.

The Wings would then draw back to back walks in Michael Garcia and Kevin Lusson, this would load the bases. One batter later Danny Pembroke would hit a two run RBI single down the first base line making it 3-0 Wings.

The WhiteWings drew four walks in the inning, as the offense batted around. Thomas Shull then belted a two run RBI single extending the lead to 6-0.

In the bottom of the seventh inning the Cats made things interesting scoring five runs in the frame, off the bats of Camron Monger and Aljay Davis both recorded a triple and a double in the late inning rally.

Brett Kennedy (2-1) got the win going six and two thirds and Kyle Roliard was credited with his first save of the year. Aaron Gates finished the night going 2-for-4 on the night with a pair of doubles.

Game three is set for Thursday at LaGrave Field. First pitch is 7:05
