Fort Worth Cats News Release

The Cats could not use the momentum of a walk off win in game one of Wednesday night's doubleheader in game, falling 7-5 to the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings.

Game one

The Cats (16-10) trailed 3-2 heading into the seventh inning of game one and strung together a hit and two walks to load the bases with two outs. Center fielder Cameron Monger came on and singled to right field to score the tying and winning run.

Reliever T.J. Bozeman came on in relief of starter Cole Stephens in the sixth inning with the bases loaded and one out. Bozeman got the two outs and the Whitewings left the bases loaded. He earned the win.

Daniel Meeley led off the Cats' seventh with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Chris Ellison then flew out for out number two and Ryan Miller and Kori Melo both drew walks, giving way for Monger's walk-off single.

Game two

The second game was scoreless through four innings, but the Whitewings (13-13) scored one in the fifth to take a lead.

Rio Grande Valley brought 12 batters to the plate in the sixth, scoring six runs on three hits and six walks. The Cats brought four pitchers to the mound in the inning.

Fort Worth was in danger of being shut out for the first time this season, but they scored five runs in the ninth and brought the tying run to the plate with one out remaining. Ellison flew out to the second baseman to end the game.

Monger, the hero of game one, went 5-for-8 on the night with three RBI.

The Cats play game three of the four-game series Thursday at LaGrave Field. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
