Moncton Wildcats News Release
Thomas Auger capped a three-point game with the game-winning goal 1:53 into overtime as the Wildcats edged the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, 7-6, Sunday at Avenir Centre.
Brooklyn Kalmikov scored twice for Moncton while Maxim Barbashev,, Alexid Daniel and Yoan Loshing added a goal and assist each. Thomas Darcy also found the net.
The Armada opened the scoring eight minutes in with a shorthanded goal and took a 2-0 lead with just under a minute left in the opening period.
Kalmikov's first goal of the night cut the Wildcats' deficit in half before the end of the period. The overage winger tried to feed the puck from the right side of the goal to the front of the net and it deflected past goalie Nicholas Sheehan off a defender's skate.
Darcy evened the score five minutes into the second, carrying the puck into the right circle and whipping a wrist shot through Sheehan's legs to make it 2-2.
But Blainville-Boisbriand regained the lead 40 seconds later and made it a 4-2 game with a power play goal midway through the second period.
Barbashev replied for Moncton a short time later, stepping out from the right corner and into the crease area and stuffing it inside the right post. The visitors led 4-3 after two periods.
The Wildcats tied the game again nearly three minutes into the third period when Daniel buried a cross-crease pass from Barbashev.
Loshing gave Moncton a 5-4 lead just over a minute later with a power play strike after he pounced on a loose puck in the low slot and slashed it past Sheehan's glove.
The Armada netted two goals four minutes apart around the halfway through the third period to take a 6-5 lead. But Kalmikov forced extra time with a power play goal in the final minute of regulation time. The Wildcats' leading scorer carried the puck through the neutral zone, weaved into Blainville-Boisbriand territory and ripped a wrist shot off the right post and in with 32.7 seconds remaining.
Auger made sure the Wildcats got the extra point with the game-winner less than two minutes into overtime. Charles-Antoine Pilote brought the puck into the Armada zone on the left wing and spotted Auger open across the ice. The forward snapped a wrist shot through the legs of Sheehan to end the game and give the Wildcats their second straight win.
Goalie Vincent Filion made 24 saves for the win in goal.
