Fort Worth Cats News Release

After taking game one of Saturday night's doubleheader, the Fort Worth Cats used a late rally in game two to sweep and remain undefeated.

Game One

The Cats (3-0) took game one after third baseman Greg Bachman hit a two-run double in the third inning. That double drove in two of his four RBI's on the evening.

After the Roadrunners (0-3) cut the lead in half in the top of the fourth, center fielder Cameron Monger and second baseman Aljay Davis got back-to-back hits and made the score 3-1, where it would stay as the final.

Game Two

The Cats got off on right foot in game two as center fielder Tim Maitland and Davis strung together back-to-back hits and designated hitter Jose Canseco had an RBI ground out, putting Fort Worth on top early, 2-0.

Canseco added a solo home run in the third inning to extend the Cats' lead.

Through four innings of work, Cats' starter Aaron Wilkerson struck out eight Roadrunners, gave up no hits and walked one.

Reliever Jorge Rodriguez came on in the top of the fifth and loaded the bases after striking out one batter. T.J. Bozeman then came in to attempt to put out the fire.

Bozeman gave up a fielder's choice and hit Edinburg left fielder Komori Daiki with a pitch to allow the Roadrunners' first two runs.

With the bases still loaded, Roadrunner center fielder Bobby Rinard launched a deep fly ball to center field where Maitland made a spectacular diving catch. The runner from third tagged and scored and Maitland overthrew the cutoff man, allowing the fourth run to score. The Roadrunners took a 4-3 lead.

But the Cats rallied for five runs in the bottom of the seventh to take the lead back and held on until the end, for an 8-4 final.

Canseco went two-for-five on the evening with 2 RBI's and he is now batting .375 as a member of the Fort Worth Cats.

Home Run Derby

During the break between the two games a home run derby took place featuring Cats first baseman David Bergin, Edinburg outfielder Carlton Salters and both Canseco brothers - Jose and his twin brother, Edinburg manager Ozzie.

Salters finished the three-round event with one home run, Bergin and Ozzie had two and Jose led the contest with three bombs.

The Cats look to complete the series-sweep on Sunday at 6 p.m. at historic LaGrave Field. Tickets can be purchased online at FWCats.com or by phone at (817) 332-CATS.
