Grand Prairie AirHogs News Release
Grand Prairie, TX. Fort Worth ended the AirHogs' seven-game winning streak with a 5-3 victory Friday night in front of 3,162 fans at QuikTrip Park. It also snapped a three-game win streak against the Cats but Grand Prairie still leads the season series 8-5.
The AirHogs banged out 11 hits against four Fort Worth pitchers but stranded eight men on base. Antoin Gray, however, did become the third AirHog to reach the 100-hit plateau for the season.
Gray joins Greg Porter (120), David Espinosa (110) with 100 hits or more for the season.
Trailing 5-3 entering the bottom of the ninth, the AirHogs had runners at the corners with one out. Robert Perry walked and Daniel Berg singled him to third. But Gray popped up and Espinosa flew to left to end the threat.
The AirHogs took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a RBI single by Antoin Gray that scored Daniel Berg from second. Berg had hit a one-out double before Gray lined a hit between first and second.
Aaron Garza's RBI double in the second made it 2-0 but the Cats came back with two runs in the fifth to tie it. The score stayed 2-2 until Jason Stokes drilled a RBI single to right field scoring David Espinosa from second.
But in the eighth Fort Worth scored two runs off AirHogs' reliever Geivy Garcia to take a 4-3 lead. Kevin Thompson picked up a RBI hit and Jose Duran blooped a single into center to score Thompson, who had stolen second.
Fort Worth added an insurance run in the top of the ninth on Jeremy Sauceda's sacrifice fly to left. It scored Nick McCoola who had doubled and gone to third on Kennard Bibbs' sacrifice bunt.
The second game of the series starts tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. with gates opening at 6 p.m. for a Fireworks Saturday Night and "Bowling Night" at QuikTrip Park.
