Cats Run Wild in Rouyn-Noranda

The Moncton Wildcats had an offensive explosive Thursday night in Rouyn-Noranda defeating the Huskies 8-4 to register their second straight victory. Marek Hrivik and Allain Saulnier scored two goals each in the win, Ryan Penny, Simon Jodoin, Olivier D'Aoust and Devon MacAusland scored for the Cats. Brandon Thibeau picked up his 2nd straight win stopping 34 shots. Robbie Defulviis, Anthony Verret, Mathieu Brisebois and Alexis Bernier replied for the Huskies. Jeffrey Noonan stopped 38 of 46 shots in the loss. On the powerplay Moncton was 2 for 2 while Rouyn-Noranda was 0 for 1.

The first period was an entertaining one with both teams going back and forward and both goalies make a couple of spectacular saves. The Huskies lead in shots 15-13 heading into the first intermission but were down 1-0. Saulnier finished off a beautiful passing play with brother Alex and Dan Pettersson at 12:37 for his 26th of the year.

The second period was a wild one that saw the two teams combine for seven goals. Jodoin got the scoring spree started when he tipped Brandon Gormley's wrist shot from the point at 2:42 on the powerplay. The Huskies scored two goals 35 seconds apart to tie the game. Defulviis scored off a face off at 4:26 and then Verret beat Thibeau on a shot from the slot at 4:59. The Cats regained the lead when Noonan fell trying to play the puck behind the net leaving Hrivik with a wide open net to score his 28th of the season at 6:43. The Wildcats doubled their lead at 15:01 as he deflected Milan point shot home. Forty seconds later the Huskies got one back as Brisebois slapper from the point found its way past a screened Thibeau. Penny closed out the goal filled 2nd period when he pounced on his own rebound at 17:51 to score his first goal in the Q.

Bernier made it 5-4 Cats 1:14 into the third period but that was as close as the Huskies would get. D'Aoust scored his third of the season as he banged home a rebound at the side of the net at 3:05. Saulnier scored his 2nd of the night at 8:18 and Hrivik made it eight for the Cats at 10:32 scoring his second of the night and 29th of the season.
