Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release

Lewiston, ME (QMJHL) - The Lewiston MAINEiacs have shown all season that they have one of the best offenses in the QMJHL. Unfortunately, on Thursday night, they faced one of the better goaltenders in the league, and said goaltender brought his "A" game. Christopher Gibson was perfect, stopping all 36 shots he faced, leading the Chicoutimi Sagueneens to a 3-0 win in front of 2,664 fans at Centre Georges Vezina.

The Sagueneens got on the board first, connecting on a power play tally in the game's opening stanza. Jonathan Lavoie took a shot from the top of the right circle that hit high off of Andrey Makarov's chest. With the rebound still in the air, Jonathan Bonneau batted the loose puck into the back of the cage.

In the second period, Chicoutimi capitalized on the power play once again. Guillaume Asselin caught a long lead pass from Dominic Poulin, skating the puck into the offensive zone. Charles Hudon joined Asselin on the rush, took a backhand feed from his teammate, and buried a shot into a mostly open goal.

The score remained the same until the final minute of the contest, when Jonathan Bonneau iced Chicoutimi's win with an empty net tally - his second of the night.

Christopher Gibson was spectacular in goal for the Sagueneens, stopping all 36 shots he faced for the shutout. Andrey Makarov played well, but was saddled with the defeat, despite making 21 saves on 23 shots.

The MAINEiacs will continue their brief road trip on Friday night at 7:30, when they visit the Drummondville Voltigeurs. Lewiston's next home game will also be against Drummondville, taking place on Sunday at 4:00.
