San Angelo Colts News Release

Fort Worth, Texas --- The Fort Worth Cats erased an early 1-0 deficit and handily defeated the San Angelo Colts, 8-1, Thursday night at LaGrave Field.

San Angelo scored its only run in the top of the first inning. Second baseman Jon Dziomba hit a one-out double, and then scored on an RBI single by right fielder Dan Evatt. After allowing that run, Cats' starter Kyle Wilson (3-1) went on to pitch six shutout innings and earn the win.

Wilson gave up one run on just four hits and struck out a game-high six batters in seven innings. While he put up zeros, Fort Worth's offense got to work.

The Cats took a 2-1 lead in the second inning, as first baseman David Bergin and designated hitter Daniel Meeley both scored on a two-RBI single by left fielder Cameron Monger. Fort Worth then went ahead 3-1 in the third when catcher Shelby Ford hit a solo home run. It was his second homer of the year.

The Cats then scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth to put the game away. Meeley capped off the inning with a two-RBI single.

Colts' starter Jake Negrete (0-2) pitched just two innings, but took the loss by virtue of allowing the go-ahead run in the second. Negrete gave up two runs on four hits and struck out one batter.

San Angelo threatened to score in the ninth, but got shut down by Cats' reliever Wes Alsup. After surrendering back-to-back singles, Alsup retired three of the next four batters to end the game.

The win improves Fort Worth to 26-15, while the loss drops San Angelo to 22-19. This series continues Friday at 7:05 p.m. The game can be heard live on 1260 KKSA beginning at 6:50 p.m.
