Fort Worth Cats News Release
EDINBURG, Texas - Matison Smith allowed two runs in seven innings and struck out seven to lead the Edinburg Roadrunners past the Ft. Worth Cats 6-3 Monday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Smith (5-3) walked just two while scattering eight hits for his fifth win of the season.
Blake Nation was credited with just his second loss of the season. Nation went six and two-thirds innings and five of the six runs were earned. He did not walk a single Roadrunner.
The Roadrunners (36-21) gave Smith all the runs he needed with RBI singles from Vincent Blue, Derek Perren, and Felix Molina giving them the 3-0 lead against Ft. Worth starter Blake Nation.
Carlos Hereaud added to his league leading RBI total with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth that allowed Wilmer Pino to score making it 4-0. Hereaud now has 44 RBI on the season.
The Cats (32-24) got on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh. Former Roadrunner C.J. Beatty hit an RBI double that allowed R.J. Harris to score. Jon Dziomba followed with an RBI single scoring Beatty that cut the Edinburg lead in half 4-2.
Edinburg responded with a couple of runs of their own. With runners on the corners, Perren hit a sacrifice fly that allowed Blue to score from third. After Hereaud moved to second on the sacrifice fly, he came in to score after an infield single by Molina was misplayed and that extended the Roadrunners lead 6-2.
A throwing error in the top of the eighth allowed Derek Marshall to score that made it 6-3 in favor of the Roadrunners.
Julio Castro kept the Cats off the board in the top of the ninth for his 10th save of the season giving Edinburg the 6-3 victory.
The Roadrunners and Cats will continue their four-game series Tuesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Dave Dinelli (3-5) is expected to face Trevor Harden (4-4) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
