Sacramento River Cats News Release

TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers defeated the Sacramento River Cats, 5-2, at Tacoma's Cheney Stadium on Thursday night to even the series at one game apiece, meaning the teams will play at least two games in Sacramento this weekend.

The River Cats struggled to capitalize on offensive opportunities throughout the game, stranding 11 runners on base on the night. Sacramento was a combined 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position. Cats starter Chad Reineke allowed 3 runs in 5.0 innings of work and took the loss, despite battling through a number of jams to keep the game close.

A pair of solo homers by Chris Carter and Eric Munson was all the offense the Cats could muster on the night as the team's 2-3-4 hitters (Matt Carson, Brett Wallace and Tommy Everidge) went a combined 0-for-14.

The two teams will head back to Raley Field on Friday with the series split, 1-1, essentially reducing the series to a best-of-three weekend series in Sacramento.
