Tail gate party launches Home Opening Weekend:
It's only a week away - the exciting Home Opening weekend. The three days of festivities begin next Friday the 18th with a Giant Tail Gate Party at the Coliseum parking lot starting at 5pm and running right up to game time at 7. There'll be loads of music, the Cavendish Fry Wagon will be on hand and for the kids, face painting. The PEI Rocket will provide the opposition for the Wildcats.
Downtown becomes the focus on Saturday with the Cats Cup starting a busy day of events and activities. 72 players on six rinks will compete for the Cup on Main Street, starting at 9 am. At noon the annual team Bar-B-Q and team introduction takes place. There's another Tail Gate Party starting at 2 on Sunday afternoon featured will be actors from McSweeney's Dinner Theatre presenting a split your sides laughing performance. Topped off with an Antique Car Show and another opportunity to tour the Wildcats bus, it just means great fun for everyone before the Wildcats and Cape Breton Screaming Eagles face off at 4 o'clock.
Tickets can be picked up all week:
Season Ticket and Flex Pack holders can pick up their tickets today from 10-6 in the Coliseum lobby next to the Wildcats office. Next week the tickets will be available for pick up at the Wildcats office from Monday to Friday, 9 to 5. Single game tickets for both games next weekend are available at the Coliseum Box Office. For those who couldn't pick up their season seat ticket or flex pack yesterday, they will be available today from 10 am to 6 pm, in the Coliseum lobby in front of the Roar Store. Next week the tickets will be available at the Wildcats office from Monday to Friday from 9 to 5. Single game tickets for the Big Home Opening Weekend are now available at the Coliseum Box Office.
Rivalry Cup has new format:
Last season the Wildcats were the run away winners of the Rivalry Cup against the Saint John Sea Dogs. The win was based on the highest percentage of fan attendance at games at Harbour Station and the Coliseum. This year, there's a new point system. First there's the head-to-head "on ice" competition with two points for a regulation or overtime win. One point will be awarded for an overtime or shoot out loss. The second part of the system is based on attendance with half a point for 70% capacity, there's a full point for 80% capacity and two points for 90%. Each team can build up eight points. Five points will be awarded to the city which collects the most non-perishable food items during the New Year's Eve/Day home and home series. The Mascot Challenge will provide the opportunity to win four points and the Road Trip Challenge will see two points awarded for the largest group of fans wearing their Wildcats/Sea Dog jerseys in the opposition's rink on a designated night. Be sure the Wildcats will go "all out" to retain the Rivalry Cup.
