TROY, NY - The Tri-City ValleyCats earned their first three-game sweep of the 2014 season by beating the Lowell Spinners on Sunday night, 11-3.
The win moves Tri-City to 15-8 while the loss puts the Spinners at 11-12.
The 'Cats got production from up and down the lineup, as seven different hitters posted multi-hit games. Ryan Bottger went 4-4 with four RBIs, while J.D. Davis had a home run and five RBIs. He finished the series with 10 RBIs. He now leads the team in home runs (4) and RBIs (18).
Tri-City got the scoring started early, posting two runs in both the first and second frames. Bottger doubled in a run in the bottom half of the first before Terrell Joyce singled in a run of his own.
Leading 2-0 in the bottom of the second, Davis added to the margin with a two-run double to left field. He finished the day 2-5.
Lowell got a run back in the fourth to cut the deficit to 4-1, but the ValleyCats struck back in the bottom half of the frame on Bottger's second home run in as many games. They added three more runs in the sixth on Davis' home run to make the score 8-1.
Lowell scored once in the seventh to make it 8-2, but Tri-City scored three more times in the bottom half to make it 11-2. The big blow was a two-RBI double by Bottger.
Earning the win for the ValleyCats was Luis Ordosgoitti (2-1). The right-handed starter threw five frames, striking out four batters while allowing only one run on four hits.
Right-hander Joe Musgrove and southpaw Jordan Mills threw two innings each to finish out the 11-3 victory.
